ABOUT PHMUSEUM

PhMuseum operates as an independent platform dedicated to exploring and sharing visual culture. Since its inception in 2012, it has aimed to create innovative avenues for showcasing photography while fostering education and community engagement. The organization is committed to discovering, supporting, and promoting talent within the field as a unique incubator.

Over the last 13 years, the Grants Program has awarded more than €220,000 in cash prizes and opportunities—including educational activities, residencies, exhibitions, and screenings at prominent international festivals such as Getxophoto, PhEST, Fotofestiwal, and more. Numerous renowned photographers have benefited from this program, including Max Pinckers, Bieke Depoorter, and Laura El-Tantawy among others.

Since 2020, PhMuseum has enhanced its support for emerging photographers through its Education Program, which features personalized mentoring and a range of long-term online masterclasses led by distinguished international experts like Elisa Medde and Erik Kessels.

The establishment of PhMuseum Lab in Bologna in 2020 serves as a physical nexus between the online community and real-world interactions. This versatile space hosts approximately three curated exhibitions each year and supports events such as talks and workshops designed to foster closer relationships between artists and audiences.

Launched in late summer 2021, PhMuseum Days is an International Photography Festival curated in Bologna. This annual event invites participants to immerse themselves in photography while connecting with the community. Each iteration revolves around a thematic focus that challenges traditional curation methods. The festival incorporates exhibitions held in both historical and industrial sites, alongside talks and public activities aimed at facilitating dialogue around contemporary practices.
